Mickey Gall score RNC victory at UFC Vegas 32
Gall versus Jordan Williams was expected to be a classic grappler against striker clash. However, Gall quickly showed the work he has been doing recently with UFC welterweight veteran Matt Brown to improve his striking. Early in the round, he stunned his opponent with a short hook in the clinch that floored Williams. Gall, 29, jumped to top position and tried to sink in a choke, however, Williams was able to defend and get back to his feet.
A couple of minutes went by, and Gall landed another stiff right hand that forced Williams, 30, to shoot for a takedown. In defending the takedown Gall locked in a guillotine choke, but Williams again was able to defend. But as he tried to scramble and get back to his feet, Gall was able to gain back control. After a bit of hand fighting, Gall was able to lock in the fifth rear-naked-choke finish of his career.
The second-round submission was an important bounce-back win for Gall after losing to Mike Perry 13 months ago. He has alternated wins and losses over his last six Octagon appearances.
Williams’ debut at welterweight led to a second straight setback in the Octagon. He earned his UFC deal after a third appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series, however, he has yet to earn a win in the UFC in two tries.
